Ashwagandha  Withania somnifera 
A medicinal herb with adaptogenic properties (overall wellness, energy and vitality).  As a member of the solanaceae family (tomato, pepper, eggplant) this plant prefers warmer growing conditions in full sun and a higher soil pH.  The roots are harvested and dried at the end of the growing season, prior to frost.  Perennial in zones 8 and higher.
